Announcing the E. James Morton Award

This annual award recognizes the author and cartographer of an outstanding history of the Civil War era in which original cartography makes a significant contribution to the author's narrative. The purpose of the award is to honor and encourage use of original cartography in telling the story of the Civil War era. 

Administered under the auspices of the Civil War Institute, at Gettysburg College

The author and cartographer will each receive $1000 

The publisher will also be recognized.

Submissions open September 1, 2026

for books published in 2026. The prizes will be awarded at the CWI in June 2027.
